Fox Sports’ Varsha – the balancing act
Michelin Alley caught up with Fox Sports commentator Bob Varsha at the Sebring Winter Test – getting his thoughts on the GTLM battle and balance between Daytona Prototypes and LM P2 cars.
Fox Sports will bring fans all the action of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship throughout the year on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2.
“From the very first moment that Grand-Am and ALMS were going to get together the question was ‘how are you going to equalize the performance of DP and P2 cars,” Varsha said.
“Finally a rule book was settled on and we came to Daytona and we got what we got in terms of relative performance. A few small adjustments will be made and if everyone is patient – and I know that is a lot to ask in racing – I think things are going to be just fine.
“Daytona was an artistic success and I think changes will be made – some obvious, some less so – and I think Sebring will be an entirely different race all together.
“Sebring is a totally different race track and the bumpiness factory will bring in the reliability issue as well. I’m really looking forward to it because it will be another chapter in this ongoing story that is being written as we speak.”
Varsha is a huge fan of the GTLM battle which features manufacturers doing battle including BMW, Corvette, Ferrari Porsche and SRT.
“I really believe that GT racing is an important part of the future of sportscars. The GTLM set-up with all the manufacturers battling hard with a variety of cars and a diversity of mechanical and driver lineups – if everyone is patient it is going to be great.”
