The super competitive nature of the GTLM class in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship was highlighted again this morning when four different brands filled the top four spots on the timing sheet – Porsche, Ferrari, BMW and Corvette.
The four marques are full time entrants in this year’s championship – also joined this weekend by Aston Martin Racing.
Porsche’s Patrick Pilet set the pace this morning, stopping the clocks at 1 minute, 59.023 seconds.
He led Pierre Kaffer’s Risi Ferrari in second followed by Dirk Werner’s retro-livered BMW Z4 and Tommy Milner’s Corvette in fourth (pictured right).
Rolex 24 at Daytona winner and last night’s night practice pacesetter – the No.3 Corvette was fifth fastest this morning with Antonio Garcia at the wheel.
In the prototype ranks the Ligier P2-style machines again set the pace with Oz Negri’s Honda-powered entry was fastest at 1:52.096 while Olivier Pla – the Frenchman who topped two of yesterday’s three sessions – was second fastest with a 1:52.578 lap.
Joao Barbosa was the fastest Daytona Prototype in third with a time of 1:52.588.
Other class leaders this morning included Martin Plowman in LMPC and Spencer Pumpelly’s Porsche in GT Daytona.
