Formula E concludes season five in New York
The New York City E-Prix caps off season five of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship. It also concludes the first season for the series’ new Gen2 car and new MICHELIN Pilot Sport tire on the car.
Michelin’s official race preview is linked here. Additionally, further details about the event are here in the Michelin Motorsport Racecard.
The races are televised in the U.S. Saturday, July 13, at 3:30 p.m. EDT on FOX, and Sunday, July 14, at 3:30 p.m. EDT on FS1.
VERGNE GOES FOR ENCORE
Season four champion Jean-Eric Vergne, of DS Techeetah, holds a 32-point lead in the championship heading to the doubleheader finale weekend. He can clinch the title in Saturday’s race one with a gap of at least 30 points to second place.
Just 29 points cover second-placed Lucas di Grassi down to ninth-placed Sam Bird.
Among teams, DS Techeetah has a 43-point edge on Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler.
AMERICAN TEAM NOTES

From an American interest standpoint, the BMW i Andretti Motorsport team looks to “book-end” the season with wins. Antonio Felix da Costa won the season opener in December in Saudi Arabia. The team enters the weekend sixth in team points with da Costa fifth in the driver’s standings, with three podium finishes.
Geox Dragon is 10th in team points. Maximilian Guenther has delivered that team’s best finishes this year, fifth on two occasions.
SELLERS SEEKS JAGUAR TITLE

The inaugural Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY series also concludes this weekend. American Bryan Sellers, in one of the two RLL Racing entered cars, is second in the standings and just six points behind leader Sergio Jimenez.
Sellers won last year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona class title ahead of Katherine Legge, who’s his teammate in this series.
