Ford fastest Friday in Monterey
Ford Chip Ganassi Racing seeks to start a new win streak to cap off the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season with the last two races of the year.
The manufacturer has a GT Le Mans class high five victories this year, including a run of four in a row from Watkins Glen through Road America.
Ford got off to a fast start on Friday ahead of this weekend’s Monterey Grand Prix. Dirk Mueller set the fastest time of the day in the second practice session at 1:23.265 in the No. 66 Ford GT. He shares that car with Joey Hand.
The No. 67 Ford was second in this session, though was fastest in the morning practice. Richard Westbrook clocked in a best lap this morning of 1:23.644. The car improved to a 1:23.427 in the second session with Ryan Briscoe driving.
In the afternoon session, the two Corvettes were next followed by the first BMW and first Porsche.
Temperatures fluctuated throughout the day with ambient 73 to start the morning, down to 67 in the afternoon and then 65 by the end of the session. Track temps evolved as well from mid-80s to low-90s and then back to the low 80s.
