Final day of action at the Roar
Final day of action at the Roar
Teams in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship have their final chance to turn laps today at Daytona International Speedway as the Roar before the 24 test comes to a close.
The traditional pre-season test provides an insight into the relative performance of teams, but with a caveat – who wants to show their complete form?
In the five sessions so far, Ford has topped the times in four of the five sessions including last night’s test at night.
The No. 66 Ford of Joey Hand, Dirk Mueller and Sebastian Bourdais topped the session with a lap of 1:43.789 – the only GTLM entry to break the one minute, 43-second mark under the Daytona lights.
Teams are back on track this morning with a 30-minute session at 10:45 am before a qualifying session to decide pit positions and garage allocations for the race kicking off at 11:25 am. Cars will return for a final one-hour session at 2:45 pm.
While some teams sometimes pack up early on the final day, others are expected to use every available lap including BMW who are developing their new-for-2018 BMW M8 GTLM.
Once the test is complete, teams have only 17 days before they are back on track as the Rolex 24 at Daytona begins on Thursday, January 25.
