FIA WEC Race Update – 3 Hours

September 19, 2015

porsche_17Porsche has been the brand to catch throughout the week at Circuit of The Americas and today’s Lone Star Le Mans event looks set to be a continuation of that trend.

Half way through the six hour race in Texas the German Le Mans winners were 1-2 in the Prototype class, the GTE-Pro and GTE-Am classes!

Mark Webber went around the outside of his teammate Neel Jani to take the lead on the start. At the half way point, Timo Bernhard was aboard the No.17 machine ahead of Jani who was back aboard the No.18.

The No.8 Audi held third place but the prototype ranks were depleted just after three hours when Mike Conway crashed the No.2 Toyota while negotiating traffic.

In LM P2 Romain Rusinov led for G-Drive Racing ahead of Mark Howson from KCMG – the Hong Kong squad charged back into contention after starting at the back of the pack.

The ESM Honda squad are down to one car after Ed Brown suffered brake issues, jumped the inside kerb on the final corner and two-wheeled the car into the fence – luckily not rolling the Ligier.

In GTE-Pro Patrick Pilet and Michael Christensen held the top two spots after dominating the opening half of the race.

Dempsey-Proton Racing holds the GTE-Am lead after Patrick Long pulled off a brilliant opening stint – charging well into the GTE-Pro ranks. Patrick Dempsey is now back in for his second stint.

The Abu Dhabi-Proton Porsche held second with Christian Reid taking over from Earl Bamber just after half way.
