Ferrari Time?
The high speed dance around the 2.459 mile Mosport circuit may be just what the trio of Ferraris are looking for to put the Prancing Horse atop the podium for the first time in 2011 ALMS competition.
Both the #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 Italia of Jaime Melo and Toni Vilander, and the pair of Extreme Speed Motorsports Ferrari 458 Italias with Scott Sharp and Johannes in the #01 Patron entry and Guy Cosmo and Ed Brown aboard the #02 have been consistently quick this weekend at Mosport.
Higher temperatures and a heavy dose of traffic hampered the Ferraris in qualifying as Sharp claimed fourth, Melo fifth, and Brown twelfth. Slightly cooler temperatures and consistent race set-ups will be important in helping them displace the all-conquering BMWs that start 1-2, and the #45 Flying Lizard Porsche.
The new Ferrari 458s have shown speed in the early ALMS events. Melo and Vilander recently claimed the first international victory for the 458 Italia in the recent Intercontinental Le Mans Challenge event at Imola.
