The GT Le Mans battle in the new TUDOR United SportsCar Championship is going to be a key highlight of the new championship. If the testing action this week at Daytona International Speedway is any indication – the battle is going to be fierce.
After a year of misfortune in the ALMS, the Ferrari 458 Italia dominated the time sheets this week – setting the fastest time of 1:46.937. Ferrari had all its top men on hand this week with factory pilots Giancarlo Fishicella, Gianmaria Bruni, Toni Vilander and Oliver Beretta behind the wheel.
The Ferrari squad was .255 of a second ahead of the SRT Viper of Marc Goossens and Kuno Wittmer (pictured right).
The factory Aston Martin Racing Vantage was third fastest ahead of the two BMW entries.
When the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship teams return in January for the “Roar before the 24” test, the competition will become even tougher with Corvette Racing and the two new CORE autosport Porsches expected on track.
In today’s GT Daytona class action, Porsche set the pace with the new GT America model. Magnus Racing set the fastest time at 1:49.025 ahead of the similar Muehlner Motorsports America entry.
