Teams may have to get used to the look of the rear of the No.62 Risi Competizione Ferrari this weekend after another pacesetting performance this afternoon at VIRginia International Raceway.

They left it to until the final lap to take victory last year but Pierre Kaffer and Giancarlo Fisichella today topped the timesheets in both sessions at VIR.

“We improved our car from today’s first to second sessions, but we saw that all the others improved also,” Kaffer said.

“We are all very close. You cannot say we are dominating. At the moment, we are happy that we were at the front in both sessions, but tomorrow’s qualifying is a different story.

“The race, of course, is a different story. But right now I’m happy for the whole team – it’s been a long time since we’ve been in front.”

Porsche showed they are ready to fight in the second session by finishing second and third fastest – both within 2/10ths of a second of Kaffer’s fastest time of 1:43.138.

The BMW duo were next up but Corvette Racing will be looking for more speed for qualifying tomorrow after finishing this afternoon’s session in seventh and eight place.

Tommy Milner’s BMW suffered a spin during the afternoon session but was able to continue without any contact or damage

Porsche were also strong in the GT Daytona class this afternoon with Spencer Pumpelly setting the fastest time and Andy Lally’s Porsche in third spot.

The BMW of Markus Palttala was second fastest.

Teams will be back on track tomorrow at 9:55am for the final session before qualifying kicks off at 4:40pm.
