Ferrari flies in first session
The Risi Competizione Ferrari struggled throughout the early part of the 2014 season but recent balance of performance changes has put Giancarlo Fisichella and Pierre Kaffer on the podium at Indianapolis and at the top of the timesheet at Road America this morning.
The ex-F1 driver Fisichella stopped the clocks at 2 minutes, 5.549 seconds to outpace championship leader Antonio Garcia in the No.3 Corvette.
The Dodge Viper duo were third and fourth fastest. Road America was the scene of the first victory for Viper here last year with Dominic Farnbacher and Marc Goosens.
The Corvette DP pack headed the timesheets in the prototype class with Jordan Taylor leading Indianapolis winner Christian Fittipaldi.
The session ended on a sour note for Gustavo Yacaman who finished in the tire barrier at Canada Corner aboard his Oak Racing Morgan.
Other class leaders included IndyCar driver Jack Hawksworth aboard the RSR Racing PC car and Spencer Pumpelly for Flying Lizard in GTD.
Top two in class (overall in parentheses):
(1) #10-P Jordan Taylor (Corvette DP) 1:57.118
