Ferrari and Action Express win Road America
Risi Competizione and Action Express Racing were the big winners at Road America today as the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship visited Elkhart Lake for the first time.
Risi scored its first TUDOR Championship win and its first at Road America since 2011 with Giancarlo Fisichella and Pierre Kaffer jumping from fifth to first on a pit stop to jump into the lead.
Fisichella scored his first North American win today. Prior to this weekend he was won of only two GTLM class drivers not to have won in ALMS GT or TUDOR GTLM competition.
Action Express Racing’s Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa took their second consecutive victory and their third of the year in the prototype class – heading home Michael Shank Racing’s Oz Negri Jr. and John Pew.
Extreme Speed Motorsports’ Scott Sharp and Ryan Dalziel finished third.
The win by Action Express was a great fightback after being forced off course during the race while fighting for the lead with the Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP.
The No.10 Corvette DP later crashed during a safety car period with Jordan Taylor at the wheel with suspected steering failure.
Other class winners included Renger van der Zande and Marco Schultis in PC and Dane Cameron and Markus Palttala in GTD.
In a race strewn with contact and safety car periods, there was one hour, 13 minutes and one second of green flag time at Road America today and a total of one hour 33 minutes 54 seconds of yellow flag running.
