Fernandez is back
Former IndyCar ace and American Le Mans Series LMP2 class champion Adrian Fernandez returns to the American Le Mans Series paddock this weekend with Aston Martin Racing – back to the scene of one of his finest races.
With the factory Aston squad parking their 2011 car and returning with the same model that has been used to great effect by the Muscle Milk squad this year, Fernandez is back on track teamed with Harold Primat and Stefan Mücke.
The trio will contest this weekend’s ModSpace American Le Mans Monterey event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca along with the final round of the championship at Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in two weeks.
Two years ago, Fernandez put in one of the drives of his career as he valiantly chased down Gil de Ferran – trying to pull off a giant-killing win in his LMP2 Acura against de Ferran’s LMP1 Acura.
The popular Mexican came up short that day, but he and the Aston Martin Racing squad are keen to get back to victory lane this weekend.
The trio were fourth fastest today in this evening’s test session. Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf topped the timesheet for Muscle Milk aboard the similar Aston Martin coupe with the two Dyson Racing machines second and third.
Fastest in LMPC was Ricardo Gonzalez aboard the CORE autosport entry while Dirk Mueller topped the GT times for BMW.
