Portugese racer Felipe Albuquerque has some big shoes to fill. Not only does he have to follow up from his brilliant drive which took Audi to victory here in the GT class at Daytona last year, he has now been picked to replace the retired Allan McNish in Audi’s WEC/Le Mans program.

The former Race of Champions winner has been competing for Audi in the DTM for the past three years but will now move the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans program.

Albuquerque will line up with Flying Lizard Motorsports this weekend, joining forces with his fellow 2013 Rolex winner Dion von Moltke, Seth Neiman and Alessandro Latif.

“The whole program is a big thing. It is a big career change for any driver to be involved with the Le Mans program – especially with Audi who has been winning for the past decade,” Albuquerque said.

“I can’t wait to start working with the boys and get experience of what it will be like.”

Albuquerque and von Moltke were joined by Oliver Jarvis and Edoardo Mortara won the GT race last year with Alex Job Racing after clever pit strategy put them to the front in the dying moments of the race.

“Last year was just spot on but we know doing the the 24 hours you sometimes need a bit of luck. There is a lot of contact with the other cars and last year we were able to have four pros in one car, this year each car has to have a gentleman driver. It mixes things up a little bit more but I think we are going to have exciting racing again.”
