FANtastic race at Sebring.
A massive crowd has filled Sebring International Raceway for the 60th race on sunny, warm day in central Florida.
Several thousand motorhomes, campers, and tents began filling the infield of the 3.7-mile circuit early in the week for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the opening race of the 2012 American Le Mans Series season and the first race of the new FIA World Endurance Championship.
As the race passed the mid-way point, the battles are becoming established with the two Audis leading the way overall with a pair of HPD petrol-powered machines from Muscle Milk and JRM Racing a lap adrift.
In GTE-Pro it has been primarily a Corvette – Ferrari battle with the Team Feblermayer-Proton Porsche and BMW and Aston Martin in close pursuit.
Many teams have started to split pit strategies, tire changes and set up driver rotations for the second half of the race. There are less than six hours of racing at Sebring to come, including the run into the sunset and changing track conditions when darkness falls.
