ESM takes first 1-2 and first P2 win
Extreme Speed Motorsport scored a series of firsts on the streets of Long Beach today with it’s 1-2 P2 class victory.
Scott Sharp and Guy Cosmo triumphed today with Johannes van Overbeek and Ed Brown taking the running up spot in the class.
Today’s result was…
• First 1-2 class finish for the team
• First P2 win
• First ALMS podium for Ed Brown
• First ESM victory for Guy Cosmo
• First P2 podium for GT veteran Johannes van Overbeek
Their rivals at Level 5 Motorsport had a day they would want to forget with several incidents of contact – both with other cars and the wall.
“It feels great. The strength of Level 5, we thought it would take longer than this,” Sharp said.
“We really did a great job as a team coming together. The team has been flat out for two months when this thing came together.
“We knew as a team it would take a while to figure this car out and get some testing. Its great to be back in a prototype car, we have a lot of guys on our team that have experience with prototypes or high downforce cars. Guy has a lot of experience in open-tops and the Honda HPD team has been a great partner getting us up to speed.”
Sharp previously won in P2 on the streets of Long Beach with David Brabham at Highcroft Racing in 2008.
Today’s win was Sharp’s 10th ALMS class victory and the third for new-for-2013 co-driver, Guy Cosmo.
“Great day to win here at Long Beach,” Cosmo said.
“Everyone loves this track. This is my first win here and man it feels great. The PC cars were really strong here today too so they were in the middle of our race and we were in their race.
“Then we battled with Scott Tucker a bit. He raced me really clean and we had some close calls but I was able to get around him cleanly and with their troubles we were able to keep them behind us.”
