ESM Ferrari awarded first race win

July 22, 2012

Ferrari is back in the winner’s circle in the American Le Mans Series after Scott Sharp and Johannes van Overbeek were awarded the victory today after the Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche was excluded after today’s race for failing the stall test.

Each car in the championship runs with engine air restrictors which limit the overall horsepower of all competitors.

Race officials conduct a test after each race to block in the restrictors – starving the engine of oxygen. The engine should stall when this happens, unfortunately for Flying Lizard the Porsche engine today continued to run. This can occur due to damage to the air restrictors suffered during the race.

The win for Extreme Speed Motorsports is their first in ALMS competition. The victory also coincides with Johannes van Overbeek’s 100th ALMS race start.

Flying Lizard’s Joerg Bergmeister won at the previous round of the championship in Lime Rock while celebrating his 100th race start.

This is Sharp’s second Mosport ALMS victory. He teamed with David Brabham at Highcroft Racing to win overall here in 2009.
