Have you even wanted to go for a high-speed ride around the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course – climb in, do up the belts and get set for a wild roller coaster ride!
Extreme Speed Motorsports’ Scott Sharp explains what it takes to charge your way around the venue which is hosting the sixth round of the 2012 American Le Mans Series.
“When I think of Mid-Ohio, I think of non-stop action,” Sharp says.
“From a driver’s perspective – no breaks and super demanding. Talk about a track that has it all, whether it is uphill, downhill, off-camber, camber, hard braking zones, fast corners, slow corners and hairpins. It is nightmare in a lot of ways for an engineer because of the variety to try to get the car happy in all those elements, but it is the same for everyone.
“In the race it is tight, quarter-panel-to-quarter-panel racing. It is thrilling and exciting. It ought to be a great track for our Patrón Ferraris. We’ve all run well there. I’m anxious to get back.
“The key to success at Mid-Ohio for me starts at turn one.
“If you don’t get through turn one well you’re almost never going to make up the time. You really got to bust your butt through turn one and get that jump on the lap, get your delta time in the positive and that can carry all the way back around, even though there’s 13 corners, it can carry all the way around to complete the lap.”
It is certainly a wild ride!
