Near the end of “uncharted” waters for SRT
The SRT Vipers are closing in on the end of their “uncharted” waters of the American Le Mans Series.
The two-car SRT squad race at Lime Rock Park for the first time this weekend. This race, plus the next round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will complete their “rookie round” before they hit familiar territory at Road America.
With impressive pace shown at a number of races this year, Viper pilot Dominik Farnbacher is hopeful of a strong showing this weekend.
“I think due to the conditions and the fact we’ve never been here while every other team has experience from the last couple of years, I think we did a good job,” Farnbacher said.
“We’re not too far off the others; we’re eighth and ninth in qualifying and that’s good. Now we know what we have to work on after the three sessions we had today and that’s what we’re going to do for tomorrow’s warm-up session.
“We’ll see if we can get close to the front runners. This was probably a little bit like what we had in Laguna Seca, the same situation. In the race at Laguna Seca we were right there and we were competitive.”
The German would love nothing more than to score a strong result this weekend in tribute to his former teammate Allan Simonsen who tragically died at Le Mans.
Farnbacher was one of several sportscar stars to attend Simonsen’s funeral in Denmark on Tuesday alongside Danes Tom Kristensen and Jan Magnussen, plus Long Beach GTC winner, Sean Edwards.
A number of teams are paying tribute to Simonsen this weekend with decals on their cars including SRT and Corvette Racing.
