Edwards storms to pole at COTA
The BMW boys were fast yesterday and John Edwards repeated that performance in qualifying today when he earned pole today at Circuit of The Americas in the GTLM class.
The No.24 pilot earned the top spot by .032 of a second from Risi Competizione’s Giancarlo Fisichella. The gap represents only 4.7 feet of track distance between the two cars on the front row.
Yesterday’s fast man Alexander Simms put his BMW in third ahead of the two Ganassi Fords and Jan Magnussen’s Corvette.

“It’s my first pole in the M6, I had one in Lime Rock with Z4 but it’s been a while,” Edwards said.
“I had a few times where my team mate was P1 or I was P2 but it’s nice to get out of the car and see that number 1 on the side. I have to say it was a little bit of surprise.
“I was struggling with the balance this morning, but we’ve been very competitive this weekend. I was unsure what to expect in qualifying but I was very pleased. I expected people to keep getting quicker, but they didn’t so we waited it out and I stayed on top.”
The top seven cars in qualifying today were split by a mere .252 of a second today
“I just looked at the top seven and it’s a quarter second. It’s looking more like DTM or like the good ol’ days of GTLM. It’s going to be very tight but we’re at the right place to start,” Edwards said.
Other pole winers today included Ricky Taylor in Prototypes, James French in PC and Mathieu Jaminet in GT Daytona.
