Don Panoz has passed away at the age of 83. Panoz was a visionary, pioneer and founder of the American Le Mans Series, whose contributions to sports car racing are immeasurable.

Michelin and Panoz worked together extensively over the years. A statement from Michelin North America is below:

“Michelin sends its condolences to the Panoz family on the passing of a visionary leader, Dr. Don Panoz.

“From the creation of the American Le Mans Series and Petit Le Mans and ultimately the merger that unified sports car endurance racing, to the significant updates completed at both Road Atlanta and Sebring International Raceway, his commitment to the fans and the sport was unmatched.

“Michelin enjoyed a long and strong partnership with Dr. Panoz, and we salute the legacy that he has left on sports car racing in the United States.

“He will be truly missed.”
