Scott Dixon knows how to win the Rolex 24 at Daytona – the trouble is his first and only victory came way back in 2006 when Chip Ganassi won the race for the first time.

The former IndyCar Champion and Indy 500 winner has been a regular here at Daytona with Ganassi but despite the team winning the race five times, the New Zealander was only in the winning car once in 2006 with the late Dan Wheldon and Casey Mears.

Today he is looking to change that statistic. Dixon started second today and made a lightning start to sneak past the pole winning HPD Ligier of Oswaldo Negri Jr.

In the opening four hours of the race, both the No.01 and the No.02 Ford-powered Riley chassis have taken their turns in the race lead.

“Generally the No.01 and No.02 have been fairly consistent out there. Our fuel mileage we’ve been chasing to see where we’d end up by the end of the race. The No.02 seems to run a little longer which is nice to see,” Dixon said.

“The Chevys seem to be showing some pace in the field and their coming through the field especially the No.10 and No.5 cars.

“It is so early and we really just have to concentrate on keeping out of trouble. I had an incident out there with one of the Audi GTD cars. I hit him a little bit in turn five but at this stage it doesn’t appear that we have any damage.”

After 135 laps, The No.01 Ganassi car was leading with Sage Karam behind the wheel while Dixon’s No.02 machine was fourth with Jamie McMurray behind the wheel.
