Disaster for Risi before qualifying
Risi Competizione’s Giancarlo Fisichella may have been second fastest at the end of the final practice session, but impact with the wall at the end of the session has left the team with a race against time.
Fisichella tagged the wall at the end of back straight with the Italian ex-Formula 1 ace complaining to IMSA Radio that the car he was following braked 50 meters earlier than he expected.
The impact damaged the rear of the car and knocked off the rear wing.
Risi has scored five podiums, two wins, and three fastest race laps in the past 10 races but will now face a tough battle after missing the start of the qualifying session.
However, in the dying moments of the session, the ex-Formula 1 ace jumped to third fastest behind the two BMW’s – a remarkable recovery for the Houston-baed Ferrari squad.
