Delays, but congratulations from LMP1 pole man
Delays, but congratulations from LMP1 pole man
With the Muscle Milk Aston Martin squad forced to sit out qualifying while remedying their electrical drama, the battle for pole in the LMP1 class came down to a battle of teammates at Dyson Racing.
Guy Smith prevailed right at the end of the session, outpacing his Irish teammate Steven Kane by a mere .146 of a second aboard his Mazda-powered Lola. Smith’s pole time was 1 minute, 27.750 seconds
The Muscle Milk car will now be forced to start from the back of the grid with Klaus Graf’s teammate for the weekend Romain Dumas still to do a lap in the car.
Despite the American Le Mans Series action kicking off five hours late as final track preparations were made, Smith was one of many drivers who was full of compliments about the newest venue on the calendar which runs around the home of Baltimore Orioles baseball team and alongside the Baltimore Raves football stadium.
