Defending the GTE PRO crown
Returning to the scene of its dramatic 1-2 finish with the latest Porsche 911RSR at last year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche is looking to continue its big run of success in international GT competition.
While the Porsche Team Manthey squad delivered the victory here last year, a new Porsche North America factory team has taken the wins at the ROLEX 24 at Daytona in January and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March to continue the Porsche run.
Jorg Bergmeister, Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy co-drive the n.91 Porsche, while Marco Holzer, Frederic (Fred Mako) Makowiecki and Richard Lietz are aboard the n.92
The Porsches will face heavy competition in the GTE Pro class from Aston Martin, the Ferraris of AF Corse and Ram Racing and the new C7.R Corvettes.
Porsche has a very high profile at Le Mans this year as it marks the return of the marque to LMP1 competition with a pair of Porsche 919 Hybrids.
TUDOR Championship series GT-Daytona class stars Cooper MacNeil and Jeroen Bleekemolen have moved the n. 79 ProSpeed Porsche to the GTE-Pro class for this race as the two are forced to go the distance without a third driver.
Porsche’s TUDOR Sebring 12 Hour GTLM co-winner Patrick Long is aboard the Dempsey Racing n77 Porsche in the GTE-Am class here, teamed with Patrick Dempsey and Joe Foster.
