AstonMartin99_PitAfter 15 hours of flat-out racing, less than a minute separated the first and second place cars at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Sunrise at the Circuit de la Sarthe saw Earl Bamber in the No. 19 Porsche 991 Hybrid leading Benoit Treluyer in the No. 7 Audi R18 e-tron Quattro by 57 seconds.

Filipe Albuquerque held third in the No. 9 Audi with an 87-second advantage over Mark Webber in the No. 17 Porsche. Lucas Di Grassi was fifth in the No. 8 Audi and Romain Dumas sixth in the No. 18 Porsche as the two German marques tightened their stranglehold on the top six spots.

The twin Toyota TS040 Hybrids were seventh and eighth in the premier LMP1 class, the No. 2 leading the No. 1, five laps behind the leader. Next came the pair of Rebellion Racing entries, the Team Bykolles CLM, and two Nissan GT-R LM NISMO prototypes, the No. 21 Nissan having retired during the night.

Corvette 64_01The battle in GTE Pro continued with four cars on the lead lap. Richie Stanaway held a 43-second lead in the No. 99 Aston Martin Vantage V8 over the booming No. 64 Corvette C7.R driven by Oliver Gavin, followed by Richard Lietz in the No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR and Bruni Gianmaria in AF Corse’s No. 51 Ferrari 458 Italia.

In GTE Am the leader was Pedro Lamy in the No. 98 Aston Martin Vantage V8 with an 80-second margin over the No. 72 SMP Racing Ferrari. Patrick Long was third in the Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR with a podium finish a strong possibility for Long and Patrick Dempsey.
