David vs Goliath at Le Mans

June 19, 2016

toyota_1pmThe clock is counting down at Le Mans and a classic “David versus Goliath” battle in both the Prototype and GTE-Pro classes.

The No.2 Porsche managed to get through to the lead before Anthony Davison pushed the Toytoa back to the front with three hours to go.

With about 140 minutes remaining, Davison had opened the gap out to more than 50 seconds over Neel Jani while the second Toyota held third spot with Stephane Sarrzin at the wheel.

While Toyota won the FIA World Endurance Championship two years ago, success at Le Mans has proved elusive.

The classic Ford versus Ferrari battle began to swing back in Ford’s favor with Joey Hand holding an eight second lead over Risi Competizione’s Giancarlo Fisichella.

50 years ago Ford came to Le Mans and toppled Ferrari in their European “back yard” – now they are trying to return to victory lane in the toughest GT competition in the world.
