Could Ryan Hunter-Reay drive in Formula E?
Former IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay is a busy man this year trying to grab his second IndyCar title and squeeze in as many TUDOR United SportsCar Championship races as he can for the SRT Viper team.
But the talented American racer is keen to try his hand at a completely different form of racing when his Andretti Autosport team kicks off its assault in the FIA Formula E championship.
Hunter-Reay is teamed this weekend with Dominik Farnbacher and Mark Goosens at the Rolex 24 at Daytona but there is certainly potential to drive a significantly quieter race car in the future.
“Formula E certainly has a lot of momentum behind it at the moment but I just don’t know enough about it yet,” Hunter-Reay said.
“Michael asked me whether I would like to drive and I say sure, absolutely! I’d love to give it a go.
“As long as its stretching to get back for an IndyCar race because that is my priority but Formula E is something that I am very interested in.
“Hopefully the series takes off because Andretti has a team in it.”
After the nine hour mark tonight, Hunter-Reay’s SRT Viper Rolex 24 at Daytona assault suffered a set-back when his team was forced to return to the garages to fix a power steering issue.”
