Cosmo switching colors
After their late race on-track clash at Lime Rock Park earlier this season, it will be an interesting greeting between Guy Cosmo and Ryan Briscoe in Baltimore this weekend.
Briscoe probably wasn’t on Cosmo’s Christmas card list after the Connecticut weekend – however from this round of the ALMS at Baltimore, they will now be teammates.
Cosmo drove his final race with Extreme Speed Motorsports at Road America and has now switched camps to drive the same HPD P2 prototype at Level 5.
“I’ve had a great three and a half years at Extreme Speed Motorsports,” Cosmo said.
“I’ve forged meaningful friendships with the crew and thank them for all of their hard work and support. I am grateful to Tequila Patrón, Ed Brown and Scott Sharp for the opportunity they created for me as well as the incredible effort that the ESM guys put into every weekend.”
While he will miss the working relationship he had at ESM, Cosmo is looking forward to opening a new chapter in his career.
“I’m looking forward to Baltimore, and am very excited to be welcomed on board at Level 5. I’ve seen first hand how formidable a competitor they’ve proven to be, and their dedication to excellence is clear to everyone. It is a championship-caliber organization and I am looking forward to having a strong finish to the season in these next four races.”
In the ESM camp, Anthony Lazzaro will take over the spot alongside Scott Sharp in the No.01 machine.
Lazzaro has been an ESM endurance race regular with the team in recent years and excelled in the HPD machine at the team’s prototype debut at Sebring earlier this year. This will be his first sprint race with ESM.
“I haven’t been to Baltimore yet, so it will be a new experience for me,” Lazzaro said.
“I’m looking forward to driving the car again because it has undergone a lot of development since I drove it last at Sebring. I’m completely comfortable and feel at home with the entire ESM team.
“To have this opportunity is very satisfying. I’m happy they called me for Baltimore.”
