Cosmo & Ferrari fast at VIR
Guy Cosmo, co-driver of the Extreme Speed Motorsports (ESM) No. 02 Ferrari 458 Italia, posted the fastest lap of the GT class during the American Le Man Series test session at Virginia International Raceway yesterday.
Cosmo lapped the 3.27-mile, 17-turn track in 1:47.233 – .7 of a second faster than his nearest rival. The Florida-based New Yorker has certainly been a shining star throughout the 2012 season and enters the VIR weekend as one of a handful of drivers with prior experience at the circuit.
“I’ve been racing at VIR for more than 10 years and other drivers have been there as well,” Cosmo said.
“Some drivers in the series have never been to VIR because ALMS has never raced there before. Maybe I’ll have an advantage because I’ve been there so much.
“At the end of the day, every one of the drivers and teams in the GT class are absolutely brilliant at what they do.
“Our job is to show up, no matter what you know or don’t know, make the best of it and try to win.
“In theory, VIR is a clean slate for the series and it should make for a level playing field but it shouldn’t matter that much because the competition is so fierce.”
