At this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, Corvette Racing celebrates its 50th anniversary of its first appearance in the legendary race.

The last round of the American Le Mans Series in Monterey saw Corvette display both historic cars and a banner for fans to sign wishing the team success. Corvette Racing legends Dr. Dick Thompson and Dick Guldstrand joined the current fleet of factory Corvette drivers to discuss how different the times were.

Corvette Racing will display the banner fans signed at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in their Le Mans garages.

“Among many other things, I’ve had the opportunity to see something,” said Corvette Racing Program Manager Doug Fehan at Monterey. “That is the looks on your faces as these iconic gentlemen talked about what Le Mans was like in the early days of Corvette. Let me tell you, when you look at those (older) cars, if you can come away with anything but love or passion and quite frankly, their immense amount of courage, and the physical stamina required, it is beyond comprehension. It is an astounding physical feat, and they have my utmost respect.”

For Corvette, it’s all about the legacy of the world’s oldest and longest endurance race. Fehan, Mark Kent, director of GM Racing, Corvette Racing crew chief Dan Binks and Corvette Racing ambassador Ron Fellows describe the past, present and future of Corvette at Le Mans.
