Corvette Racing finally wins 100th race in North America

July 4, 2020

Corvette Racing has finally secured its 100th race win in North America, after more than two years in pursuit of it, today at Daytona International Speedway in the return to racing for both IMSA and Michelin. Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor shared the new No. 3 Corvette C8.R.

Corvette Racing entered the WeatherTech 240 at Daytona International Speedway, like every race since May 2018, in search of its 100th race win in North America. The team had 99 wins in North America and eight at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Of the previous 99, 76 came with MICHELIN® tires: 60 in the American Le Mans Series (2004-2013) and 16 in IMSA (2014-2018).

Finally, Saturday night on July 4, 2020 the all-American car scored a milestone victory on America’s birthday to win its 100th race in North America, and 77th with Michelin. The win snapped a two-plus year winless drought for the team since Long Beach in April 2018. It marks both the first pole and race win for the new Corvette C8.R race car in only its second IMSA race start.

The linkage between Corvette Racing and Michelin dates 17 years to 2004. The new Corvette C8 Stingray road car shares the most relevant track-to-street technology with the C8.R as the production car was developed with the new MICHELIN® Pilot® All Season 4 tires. Ironically, the win came as Corvette Racing operated without a Michelin race tire engineer in its pit for the first time after 163 races, due to IMSA event operations and reduced Michelin at-track personnel.

Here are 10 iconic win shots from the previous 99 here in North America. The program also has eight class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
