Corvette leads before the rain

July 8, 2016

gavin_session1Corvette Racing set the pace in the GTLM class before rain slowed the times in the first session this morning for this weekend’s Canadian Tire Motorsport Park round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Rain hit the Canadian circuit this morning and the track still had a few damp patches when the first session went green.

Championship leader Oliver Gavin topped the times with a lap of 1:16.181 compared to teammate Antonio Garcia at 1:16.203.

This was marginally slower than the first session this time last year when the No.911 topped the times at 1:15.388. However the GTLM cars have more downforce in 2016 so quicker times are expected to follow this afternnon

BMW’s Dirk Werner was third fastest ahead of Ford’s Watkins Glen pole and race winner Richard Westbrook.

In the Prototype ranks Jordan Taylor was fastest for Wayne Taylor Racing with a lap that was nearly a second faster than the Mazda of Tristan Nunez.

Ryan Dalziel’s Visit Florida Racing entry was third fastest.

Other class leaders included Johnny Mowlem in PC – bouncing back from his big crash at Watkins Glen and Andy Lally in Magnus Racing’s Audi GTD entry.

The second session kicks off at 2:55pm this afternoon.
