Corvette lead opening session at Roar
The battle between traditional rivals GM and Ford returned in the opening test session at the Roar before the 24 with Corvette Racing and Ford Performance Racing dominating on track.
Danish ace Jan Magnussen topped the times at 1:44.760 aboard the No.3 Corvette as the two US-based Ford entires went second and third – the No.67 leading the No.66.
As at Le Mans last year, Ford are running all four cars at Daytona this year with the FIA WEC entries also contesting the race.
Corvette Racing’s No.4 entry split the Ford quartet with the No.68 and 69 UK based cars fifth and sixth fastest.
Both BMWs were next up ahead of the the two new Porsche 911 RSR entries who were split by Toni Vilander’s Risi Ferrari.
Other class leaders included Rebellion Racing at the top of the timesheets in the Prototype class, BAR 1 Motorsport No.20 entry in PC and the European-based Audi of Land-Motorsport in GTD.
Cars will be back on track at 3:00pm today for the second session.
