Corvette jumps to the front
Corvette Racing jumped to the top of the times this morning in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championshipea with Antonio Garcia setting the pace aboard the No.3 C7.R at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
The Spaniard stopped the clocks at 1:15.223 before handing over to teammate Jan Magnussen. The lap by Garcia leapt the Corvette past the two BMWs which had been 1-2 with Bill Auberlen leading John Edwards.
Oliver Gavin was fourth fastest for Corvette Racing followed by Watkins Glen and Mazda Raceway winner Richard Westbrook.
In the Prototype ranks it was a bittersweet session for Michael Shank Racing. Ozz Negri set the fastest lap of the morning at 1:10.522 but teammate John Pew later suffered minor damage with an incident on the front straight – bringing out the red flag.
The Corvette DP again were strong with Dane Cameron second fastest ahead of Joao Barbosa and Ryan Dalziel.
Renger van der Zande continued his race winning pace from Watkins Glen by topping the PC times while an Audi again was fastest in GTD – this time the R8 of Stevenson Motorsports’ Robin Liddell.
Qualifying is up next at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park starting at 3:40pm.
