This is the fifth in a five-part GT2 class preview series.
Seven times a winner at the 12 Hours of Sebring, Corvette Racing has started anew in the American Le Mans Series by entering its new GT2 model of the racing C6.R for a full season in 2010. The car, homologated and denoted as a ZR1 on the entry list, will have its hands full in a fierce field in the class.
The low, rumbling GM powerplant will be a 6.0-liter small block V8 with 470 horsepower. Corvette enthusiasts from around the country can see the latest pair of yellow and black Corvettes on track. Additionally, hundreds of other legendary models can be found at the Sebring Corvette Corral this weekend on the outside of turn 17.
For an idea of how seriously Corvette takes things, look no further than Jan Magnussen’s last lap battle with Joerg Bergmeister at last year’s ALMS season-ender at Laguna Seca. Since no one gave ground, the end result was a crash just approaching the checkered flag.
