A Corvette was the weapon of choice at Watkins Glen International this morning with the GM performance brand topping both the GT Le Mans and Prototype categories in the first practice session.

In GTLM, Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia stopped the locks at  1:44.773 to lead Bill Auberlen’s BMW and Jonathan Bomarito’s newly liveried Dodge Viper.

Garcia and his Danish teamamte Jan Magnussen are on a roll – winning at Long Beach and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and taking second place recently at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Christian Fittipaldi topped the prototype times this morning at 1:39.542 aboard his Corvette DP for Action Express Racing. Richard Westbrook was second fastest for Spirt of Daytona – also aboard a Corvette DP.

Memo Rojas put the Ganassi Riley Ford in third ahead of a pair of Le Mans-style P2 machines from Gustavo Yacaman (Oak Racing) and Johannes van Overbeek (Extreme Speed Motorsports).
