Already renowned as a race winner in IndyCar competition, Briton Mike Conway looks set to add sportscar victories to his credit very soon if today’s pace at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is anything to go by.

Conway scored victory at the first of race of the Detroit Double-Header this year in IndyCar competition – backing up his 2011 Long Beach Grand Prix win.

A switch to sportscars this year has again proved his speed. He actually finished on the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with G-Drive/Delta-ADR but unfortunately suffered a post-race technical issue and was disqualified due to a fuel tank issue.

His outright speed however was what attracted Level 5 Motorsport to secure Conway’s services to fill in for the injured Ryan Briscoe at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this weekend.

He not only scored the P2 pole, but has been the fastest P2 car in every session since the cars rolled off the trucks on Friday afternoon.

“Its great to be here, its an awesome track,” Conway said.

“Every lap is really rewarding especially in qualifying. I’m glad to help out and sub for Ryan Briscoe and glad to get pole for these guys.

“I wanted to do more laps and lower the time even more but we needed to save the tires for tomorrow. All in all a good day and big thanks to Level 5 for giving us a really good car.”

Level 5 currently leads in the P2 championship with Marino Franchitti at the top of the table. The Scotsman was second fastest today. Team owner Scott Tucker will again drive both cars tomorrow.
