Conway to fill in for Briscoe at Level 5
Level 5 Motorsport has called up IndyCar ace Mike Conway to step in this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park to fill in for the injured Ryan Briscoe.
Briscoe (pictured right) suffered a broken wrist in Toronto last weekend on the streets of Toronto while driving in IndyCar for Panther Racing.
The injury is a blow to the Australian’s ALMS P2 championship hopes. Briscoe and Scott Tucker took the first place trophies at Lime Rock Park but were penalized post race for late race avoidable contact between Briscoe and Marino Franchitti.
Conway took his first IndyCar win on the streets of Long Beach in 2011. This year he has switched to a combination of sportscars and IndyCar action – showing great speed in both. He won the first race of the Detroit double-header this year and finished on the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in P2 aboard the G-Drive Racing Nissan entry.
“Firstly I would like to wish Ryan Briscoe a speedy recovery and hope he gets better soon,” said Conway (pictured right).
“It’s a great opportunity to drive for Level 5 Motorsports at Mosport, so I appreciate Scott Tucker and David Stone giving me this chance. They are a great team and have already had some success this year. I need to also thank MB Partners and my manager Mark Blundell for getting this deal done and look forward to having a good weekend.”
Tucker will again drive both cars in Canada this weekend. Marino Franchitti currently leads the P2 championship for Level 5.
“It’s unfortunate what happened to Ryan last weekend, especially after our win at Lime Rock. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back in a Level 5 car soon,” said Tucker, who is closing in on his milestone 100th career victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this weekend.
“Luckily, we’ve found a great sub in Mike Conway, who we’ve been watching this year in both IndyCar and the WEC. Our hopes are high for this weekend.”
