Colton Herta’s BMW appointment
Colton Herta, the 17-year-old son of past IndyCar and sports car driver Bryan Herta, has added a very cool opportunity to his plate. The younger Herta will become a part of BMW’s Junior driver program, and serve as BMW Team RLL test and reserve driver.
He’s made his testing debut in the new BMW M8 GTE this week at Sebring. Herta turns 18 in March, and will pair his BMW commitments with his full-time drive in the Indy Lights series with the Andretti-Steinbrenner team. More from RACER.com and Sportscar365, respectively, are linked here.
This isn’t Herta’s first new car to test this year. He also sampled an MS&AD Andretti Formula E car at the Marrakesh rookie test. Herta turned his first laps in the No. 24 BMW on Thursday and said he had a lot of fun, and was very happy with the high level of grip.
