The Chevy versus Ford battle continued at the top of the GTLM timesheet this afternoon with Ford grabbing the upper hand but Chevy setting the fastest time overall.

ford5Dirk Mueller topped the times in the afternoon session at the Roar before the 24 at Daytona International Speedway at 1:44.773 but Jan Magnussen’s time of 1:44.760 from the morning session led the overall day.

Mueller led Andy Priaulx in the No.69 car ahead of Oliver Gavin’s Corvette in the afternoon session as Ford’s Scott Dixon joined the top three in the 1 minute, 44 second bracket.

“I think this morning it was a little cooler and maybe there was a little bit more wind, which gave a better top speed across start/finish,” Magnussen said.

“That was the same for everybody. I got to go in the car right at the end of this afternoon session, but it wasn’t a real attempt; it was just a chance for me to feel the changes that had been made this afternoon.

“It’s difficult to say. It cooled down again but to me, the track felt similar. I think in general and also in the December test, the track did feel faster in the morning.”

Other class leaders in the afternoon session included Neel Jani in Prototype; Johnny Mowlem in in PC and Audi’s Andrew Davis in GTD.

The teams will enjoy three sessions tomorrow from 9:00 am -10:45 am; 1:05 pm – 3:50 pm and at night from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm.
