Championship showdown looms in P2

October 6, 2013

2013-10-05 at 16-12-59Scott Tucker may be back in the lead in the P2 class in the American Le Mans Series after winning at VIR yesterday but a championship showdown looms between Level 5 Motorsports and Extreme Speed Motorsports.

2013-10-05 at 14-31-19Six points separate the two team owners – Tucker in the lead on 149 ahead of Scott Sharp (pictured right) on 143.

Depending on final entries for Petit Le Mans, ESM could steal the championship from Level 5 if they manage to produce a 1-2 result as they did earlier this year at the Long Beach Grand Prix.

Tucker and Ryan Briscoe took the win yesterday ahead of Sharp and Anthony Lazzaro. It was Briscoe’s second successive victory and his third of the season.

After missing two races due to an IndyCar wrist injury, Briscoe has been on strong form to help his team boss fight back from a zero points day at the Baltimore Grand Prix.

“The car was good, we worked really hard on it this weekend,” Briscoe said.

“We started practice on Thursday, we weren’t entirely happy, but we got the car really strong. Great effort from everybody. Scott lead most of the laps but he got held up by the Deltawing.

“He drives away from you on the straights but you get caught up in the corners. But we were able to get the lead back later in the race. Sharp was putting a lot of pressure with his new tires. But at the end of the day we drove away. It was a great strategy and we could end up with the win.”
