CBS to air Mazda Raceway race on Saturday
Last weekend’s American Le Mans Series race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca had all the elements of a thriller — late-race passing for the lead, fast pit stops, and tire strategy that propelled the winning teams to victory. Both Highcroft HPD and Flying Lizard Porsche double-stinted their final set of MICHELIN® Tires through cool conditions in the last hour-plus of the race, and this helped each of them to their second straight wins in LMP and GT, respectively.
The excitement and action from the race was captured by film crews from CBS Sports and NFL Films, and will air a 90-minute special this Saturday on CBS from 1:30 to 3 p.m. ET.
This is the first of two 90-minute shows on the ALMS shown on CBS this year. The August race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH is also scheduled.
The show will feature a mix of on-track action, interviews and pieces comprised by Intersport, the same production group that put together the 2009 film “Truth in 24.” That film looked at Audi’s run to the win in the rain-drenched 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans with behind the scenes access from Audi Sport North America drivers and crewmembers.
The Intersport production group is not affiliated with Intersport Racing, which runs prototype cars in both the LMP and LMPC classes.
