Can a P2 car win at Daytona?

While the HPD-powered Michael Shank Racing Ligier has set the pace throughout the week at Daytona, Krohn Racing’s Olivier Pla also has his sights on success at the Rolex 24.

While the team’s Judd engine does not have the straight line speed of the HPD, Pla and teammates Alex Brundle, Nic Jonsson and Tracy Krohn remain hopefully of a strong result in their debut with the new lime green French prototype.

Krohn Racing have moved up to the prototype class in 2015 after recently running a GT Ferrari in conjunction with Risi Competizione.

The team has set their sights on success in the European Le Mans Series in 2015 but have recruited two of the top-rated P2 drivers in Pla and Brundle for its Daytona assault.

Pla drove here last year with Oak Racing while Brundle contested the race with Muscle Milk Racing.

“It was not a bad qualifying for us, to be honest, considering the lack of power and straight line speed we have at the moment here in Daytona, which is a bit unfortunate, but we will have to deal with that,” Pla said.

“The car was good and we made a good improvement between the Roar and the week of the 24. Actually I am really happy it’s going the right way.We know that we will have a deficit to compete with the DP and the other P2, but I see us doing our own race, but we must stay away from trouble and be clever. Here (at Daytona) the most important thing is the final four hours, to make sure we are on the lead lap and be very focused and get some results.”
