Ford swept the timesheets in both sessions in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship yesterday, but today the “home team” began to flex its muscles.

Toni Vilander recorded the fastest time for Risi Competizione. They may have an Italian name, but they are as Texan as they come – based 150 miles down the road in Houston.

The Finn stopped the clocks at 2:03.380  in the Ferrari he shares with Giancarlo Fisichella – a man who is now on his best behavior after being placed on probation for the next two races for his post-race on-track conduct after contact with Earl Bamber late in the race at VIR.

The Fords weren’t far away this morning – finishing second and third fastest on the timesheet.

Despite their recent run of success, Corvette Racing seem to be struggling here in Texas – finishing last and second to last in practice this morning.

In the Prototype ranks Joel Miller put the Mazda at the of the times with a lap of 1:58.033 ahead of the Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype and the Michael Shank Racing Ligier.

The Shank team is in high spirits after being named this morning as the team to field two new Acura NSX entires in the GTD class in 2017.

Alex Riberas topped the GTD times this morning for Porsche while Tom Kimber-Smith was the pace setter in PC.

Qualifying kicks off this afternoon at 3:45ppm
