Cameron brings home Turner BMW comeback

cameron_win_laguna_5_4_14After filling in at Risi Competizione at Long Beach, Dane Cameron was back in his regular ride aboard the Turner Motorsports BMW at Mazda Raceway Laguna today – pulling off a remarkable victory alongside Markus Palttala in the GT Daytona class.

Spencer Pumpelly looked set to claim the victory aboard the Flying Lizard Motorsports Audi only to run out of fuel on the final lap.

Palttala and Cameron pulled off a amazing comeback after being spun by the Viper of Ben Keating after only 14 minutes of the two hour race.

Christopher Haase brought home the Paul Miller Racing in second with Bryce Miller while Andy Lally/John Potter took third aboard their Porsche.

“Whether or not Spencer was going to finish was outside of our control. And I knew he was too far ahead that I wasn’t going to catch him on pace,” Cameron said.

“So I knew I just had to maintain the position and make sure there was no way the 48 Audi wasn’t going to get around us. Fortunately I was able to keep him at bay and I think the race went one lap longer than we thought.

“It worked out perfectly, big thank you to the team for the pit stops and the great strategy. They did a great job at the beginning. It was unfortunate to get spun around, but a great strategy nonetheless. I wasn’t really sure what our plan was when we made the early stop and got out of sequence from everyone else but I trust the team and I trust the strategist.

“I was about at the top of the corkscrew when I found out Spencer ran out of fuel. The team told me to hurry up but I didn’t know how I could hurry up any more. I think everyone jumped up and down and shouted and hoped that his car wouldn’t pick up enough.”
