Cameron and Curran claim Canada
Action Express Racing’s Dane Cameron and Eric Curran scored their first IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship win of the year at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park today – reversing the team’s 1-2 result from Watkins Glen.
While Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi was the first Action Express entry across the line at “The Glen” – this time Cameron and Curran reversed the result to claim their first win since Road America last year.
Cameron pulled off the move of the race in a stunning three-wide inside pass to claim the lead in turn two en route to victory.
“It was a pretty wild day for sure. Probably one of the toughest out laps in my life to try and get some track position and get to the front,” Cameron said.
“The clean air is so important here at this track. If you could get to the front, the car was a lot happier and you could control your own race. We were looking to fix the issues from last week when we came around.
“I think I’ve finished second three times before. I’ve never been off the podium but its great to get the win here today. It was one of those races where traffic seems to go your way and the car drove well.
“Plus the team was amazing in the pit lane, we made up positions during the stops.
“It was an important win for us, to get this far and not having won a race, we had to do everything we could to get a win today in order to get a win in the championship. So these points are going to help us a lot.”
Jordan and Ricky Taylor finished third after losing the runner-up spot late in the race to the No.5 Action Express car. Barbosa went close to crashing exiting turn two on the previous lap before fighting back to make the move in the same location the following lap.
Pole winner’s Tristan Nunez and Jonathan Bomarito’s (Mazda) hopes of victory were dashed by a broken hub.
CORE autosport scored its first victory since Sebring with Colin Braun and Jon Bennett claiming the PC class win.
