Buemi shunts in second practice
Renault e.Dams and Sebastien Buemi have hit a snag in their quest to retain the FIA Formula E team and driver championships as Buemi crashed the car heavily in the second practice session for the Montreal ePrix.
Buemi leads the championship by just 10 points over Abt Scheffler Audi Sport’s Lucas Di Grassi. To further compound Buemi’s woes, Di Grassi turned the fastest time in the first practice session while Buemi could manage only fourth.
The crash cut short the second practice session, topped by Buemi’s teammate Nicolas Prost.
Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne turned the second fastest time, ahead of Mahindra Racing driver Felix Rosenqvist.
Di Grassi was 16th in the shortened session.
Luckily for Renault e.Dams, they can run the Buemi’s second car in the qualifying session, giving them five hours to rebuild the wrecked machine before the first race of the weekend at 4:00 PM today.
Buemi and Di Grassi will both be in the third qualifying group along with championship contender Rosenqvist. Sam Bird, the fourth driver still in the title fight, will roll out in the first group.
