Bruni, Bergmeister Lead Michelin 1-2 in GT Qualifying
Risi Competizione Ferrari’s Gianmaria (Gimmi) Bruni and Flying Lizard Porsche’s Joerg Bergmeister led a Michelin 1-2- in GT category qualifying for Sunday’s Mobil 1 Grand of Mosport.
Bruni’s pole lap of 1:17.160 gave him the pole by 0.3 seconds over Bergmeister’s #45 Porsche. Tommy Milner put a BMW Rahal Letterman Racing car #92 third.
Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin qualified the #4 Corvette fourth followed closely by Scott Sharp in the Extreme Speed Motorsports #01. That makes four different manufacturers and five different teams in the top five. Michelin technical partner teams claimed five of the first six spots.
Sixth was Corvette’s Johnny O’Connell followed by the #90 BMW of Dirk Mueller. The top seven cars qualified within 0.7 seconds on the 2.459 mile circuit.
Although the Risi Ferrari qualified fastest, it will start from the rear of the GT field. The team made a change of its driver lineup with Toni Vilander replacing the ailing Jaime Melo, who has been sidelined with a stomach virus.
