Briscoe scores P2 pole on return
After being forced out of action following an IndyCar accident in Toronto earlier this year, Australian Ryan Briscoe celebrated his return to the American Le Mans Series by claiming the LMP2 pole position in Baltimore today.
Briscoe won his fourth pole of the season in P2 qualifying and the sixth for Level 5 Motorsports in the No. 551 HPD ARX-03b, 1:27.170.
The Aussie ran his fast lap late in the 15-minute session to take the pole from Extreme Speed Motorsports driver Johannes van Overbeek’s No. 02 Tequila Patrón HPD ARX-03b.
“I love it here!” Briscoe said.
“It’s one of the most challenging and one of the more physical tracks we come to. But I am really proud of the guys. It’s great to be back in the series and to start off with a pole today.
“The wrist is great, I’ve got a little battle scar. Its feeling good. I have just a little brace that helps protect it.”
Briscoe will drive with team boss Scott Tucker tomorrow while Marino Franchitti is paired with new Level 5 recruit and former ESM driver, Guy Cosmo.
