Brabham family dynasty
Sebring has been a happy hunting ground for the Brabham family.
It all began in 1959, when Sir Jack took his first of three Formula 1 World Championships by pushing his out-of-fuel Cooper-Climax across the line to finish fourth in the US Grand Prix.
Thirty years later, Geoff took the 12 Hours of Sebring title for Nissan in 1989 and again in 1991, teamed with brother Gary, while David has so far scored a trio of victories across GT1, GT2 and LMP2 in 2005, 2006 and 2010 respectively.
Third generation driver Matthew took his first US victory at Sebring in the 2012 Cooper Tires Winterfest USF 2000 Championship. The 20 year-old was awarded the Gorsline Scholarship at Sebring International Raceway on Thursday.
The Gorsline Scholarship is presented by Gorsline Company, of Rochester, N.Y., the leader in high-risk motorsports insurance. It recognizes aspiring drivers by providing programs with tools that will assist them in developing skills on and off the track to help attain their professional goals.
Brabham will work with Dr. Jacques Dallaire, Director of Performance Prime, on an individually-designed performance-enhancement program, and will benefit from a unique training program at Jim Leo’s PitFit Training – all courtesy of Gorsline Company.
“I’m absolutely honored and it really means a lot to me, for sure,” said Matthew, who will begin his 2014 racing season at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg (Fla.) on March 28-30, driving for Andretti Autsport in Indy Lights.
David Brabham will line up with Extreme Speed Motorsports aboard a HPD Prototype with Scott Sharp and Ryan Dalziel this weekend.
Dalziel qualified the No.1 entry fourth fastest today – one of two Le Mans-style LM P2 prototypes in the top four.
